Death is something that comes to us all. It is not something to be feared, but recognized for what it is.

David Howell

"Many people are discovering creative approaches to ritualize and honor those who are challenged with some form of disease or illness. I hope this book inspires others to accept death and dying as part of a powerful and courageous process."

About the Editor

R. Scott Brooks served on a national advisory committee for the Health Resources and Services Administration and is an educator and writer. Scott believes this book will inspire others to accept the human condition as part of a powerful and courageous process. He has studied and lived with Australian aborigines and Native American Indians and lives with his life-partner of eight years.

"My goal when photographing people is to make the style transparent - not overcoming the form being photographed. I didn't know what to expect when initially photographing Larisa. How could I lead a young woman who is the midst of the dying process through such a dance? I simply followed her lead—recording an amazing source of energy."
